Let's face it, Offaly will never be a famous tourist spot. Those authorities charged with enticing people to our lovely county will never have those breezy afternoon meetings I somehow imagine tourism authorities do in, say, Kerry. I bet those guys sigh cheerfully as they have to try to choose from veritable mountains of gorgeous photographs of household name attractions. But Offaly can be (groan, get ready for it, I may as well get it over with ..) Offaly nice. I've lived here for half my life, I returned here to bring up my two sons and while I lament it's landlocked status and a distressing lack of height, we muddle along rather nicely. I'm also a Beaver and Cub Scout leader, so there is an added incentive to trying to spend more time outside, learning about what's around us.
This blog is a bit of a hodge podge of stuff about outdoor pursuits, tourist attractions, historical attractions, field trips, day trips, mad notions, (very) amateur plant and critter spotting and really any stuff we as a family or scout troop do to amuse ourselves when we confine ourselves to our home county.
