I'm a thirtysomething mother of two boys, possessed of so little imagination as to have gone ahead and named them both with names beginning with C, resulting in them now being known affectionately as C1 and C2. My dad used to call me and my brother Thing 1 and Thing 2, like the Cat in the Hat's chaotic companions, so C1 and C2 seem an amusing and apt adaptation.
As can probably be easily guessed, we live in Offaly, which is about as right slap bang in the middle of Ireland as you're going to get. It's a county of much bogland, very little vertical distraction and some of the most amazing skyscapes you could hope to see ... if we get decent weather.
I'm trying to make myself blog and take pictures, it's an excellent way to start paying attention to what's going on about us and stop taking my home county so much for granted. I've also spent a lot of time lately stuck indoors over the past year or so, and recently I've started feeling guilty that I wasn't doing the fun stuff with my kids that my parents did with us. My ma passed on a love of growing things and my dad a fascination with ancient things, made things and human ingenuity and Offaly does have these things, so they deserve to be talked about more than they have been.
This blog is a bit of a hodge podge of stuff about outdoor pursuits, tourist attractions, historical attractions, field trips, day trips, mad notions, (very) amateur plant and critter spotting and really any stuff we as a family or scout troop do to amuse ourselves when we confine ourselves to our home county.
Drop me a comment if there's anywhere in particular you'd like me to go to and blog about/take pictures of in Offaly.
